Wimbledon ladies star screams 'F***, HELP ME, HELP ME' after horror injury

Bethanie Mattek-Sands has been rushed off to hospital, from playing a match at Wimbedon, after a horrific fall on court 17.

U.S. star Bethanie Mattek-Sands was in the third and final set of her second-round singles match against Romanian Sorana Cirstea when her leg buckled and she fell to the ground in pain.

The former Olympic gold medalist in mixed doubles was engrossed in a close singles match against Romania's Sorana Cirstea - winning the first set 6-4 and losing the second set on a tie-break right before she was forced to retire.

The 32-year-old has won three grand slam doubles titles with Czech Lucie Safarova, who was crying courtside during the incident, and if she had won at Wimbledon would have held all four at the same time. I went over. I saw her knee out.

United States tennis player Bethanie Mattek-Sands is one of the top doubles players in the world.

Mattek-Sands then screamed for help as her opponent came to check on her.

She was attended to by paramedics on court, with an ambulance ready to take her away.

Maria Sharapova said the surface on Court Two where she lost to Michelle Larcher de Brito was "dangerous" after she fell a number of times. "It was like something you see only in the movies", Cristea told BBC News.

The All England Club defended its response time in a series of tweets, saying an ambulance technician was at Court 17 within one minute.

"I was trying, but of course I felt useless".

Mattek-Sands's husband Justin tried to console his wife as medics arrived, while Cirstea was distraught and in tears.
