Top draft pick Markelle Fultz signs contract with Philadelphia 76ers

Top draft pick Markelle Fultz signs contract with Philadelphia 76ers

He had to be assisted off the court by his teammates, and was subsequently diagnosed with a sprained ankle, per ESPN's Ramona Shelbourne.

The 76ers pulled off a trade with Boston before the draft to move up from No. 3 to No. 1 to take Fultz, the dynamic scoring point guard that team president Bryan Colangelo felt was the flawless piece to put with Simmons and Embiid.

Markelle Fultz walks on stage with NBA commissioner Adam Silver after being drafted first overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2017 NBA Draft.

Fultz said he was doing fine on Sunday.

On the very same play, Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot suffered an upper lip laceration while defending Brown.

The 76ers were playing in a Summer League game against the Golden State Warriors on Saturday, and with 8 minutes, 26 seconds remaining in the third quarter, Fultz ran through the lane trying to making a running block from behind.

Fultz will have to be careful not to aggravate or worsen the injury over the next few months, as the 76ers definitely don't want to have another top overall draft pick off the court for another season.

The Sixers' can put all the talent they want to on their roster, they still have no control over the unfathomably bad injury luck the team has had over the last half dozen years.

'I'm a little bit punch-drunk with the injuries that we've had with our first players selected over the years, ' head coach Brett Brown said during the TV broadcast.
