Google honors scientist Eva Ekeblad with new Doodle

Google honors scientist Eva Ekeblad with new Doodle

Charged with the management of her family's land - where she attained a reputation for being firm but fair in her dealings with both bailiffs and peasantry - Ekeblad began experimenting on potatoes in 1746.

On Monday, the Google Doodle honors Ekeblad.

Her research made potatoes extremely popular in Sweden. Before Ekeland's discovery, potatoes weren't considered to be edible for humans, but were reserved for animals. Available on Android and IOS. She is credited for her gluten-free baking and alcohol products.

Ekeland cultivated her own farm of potatoes and initiated investigating, having perceived that in Germany it had been used to produce alcoholic beverages.

The search engine giant commemorated plant scientist Ekeblad's "ingenuity and scientific achievements". This breakthrough meant that other grains that were being used to make alcohol, including wheat, could be saved for food production.

Making alcohol from potatoes involves mashing the vegetables to release the starch; adding enzymes to convert starches into sugars; and fermenting and distilling the mixture.

Spread the crush on a dehydrator and let for 12-20 hours till all humidity has been remove. She was the first woman elected into the academy (another female would not be elected to the academy for 200 years). There would not be further lady participant for 203 years.

Have you seen today's Google Doodle today? Eva discovered the starch was humble but mighty - potatoes could be ground into flour or distilled into spirits.

Ekeblad remained in the capital for two years, during which time she was celebrated and offered positions in the royal household, all of which she declined.
