37-year-old Venus Williams is two matches from winning Wimbledon

37-year-old Venus Williams is two matches from winning Wimbledon

Just metaphorically speaking, like.

The 2015 Wimbledon finalist Muguruza, seeded No.14, is now set to play against the victor between Slovak Magdalena Rybarikova and American Coco Vandeweghe.

World number 11 Williams, beaten in this year's Australian Open final, is chasing a first major title since winning Wimbledon in 2008.

Ostapenko keeps hoper alive of progressing as she manages to hold her serve and make it 3-2 in the second set.

Williams won a cross-generation battle when she beat 20-year-old French Open champion Jelena Ostapenko 6-3 7-5 on Tuesday to reach her 10th semi-final in 20 attempts at the All England Club and next faces home favorite Johanna Konta.

But despite the stress of a wrongful-death lawsuit stemming from her involvement in a fatal auto accident last month, Williams has been spectacular over the past 10 days.

"I definitely feel that age is not a factor with her", Konta said about Williams. Venus Williams is schooling her opponents at Wimbledon this year.

Runner-up to Serena Williams in 2015, Muguruza is preparing for her first grand slam semi since reigning at Roland Garros previous year. I was not feeling nervous. "Why do I play first, not second?"

Thursday's other semi will feature the seventh-seeded Muguruza, the 2015 runner-up, against the unseeded outlier Rybarikova - a rescue dog, if you will, who returned to tennis in February after seven months recovering from wrist and knee surgeries. I really enjoy that. I am so happy and grateful.

Rybarikova - whose ranking slipped to 453rd this year following wrist and knee injuries - knocked out Pliskova in the second round. It is incredible, I am speechless. There is an uneven surface, no grass area basically around the baseline. The surface benefits her booming ground strokes, one of the strengths that Coco Vandeweghe of the USA couldn't blunt in yesterday's 6-3, 6-3 defeat. Ostapenko, Mary Pierce said to BBC, "wen to go for every ball, no matter what the score". Second on Centre Court, this is an unmissable match.

In the last men's fourth-round match, Novak Djokovic took a medical timeout to have his right shoulder massaged, and he declared himself disappointed with the condition of the turf in the main stadium. They put us on Court 12. Then it was too dark and too late. "I'd never played mixed doubles before". I think I'm again on a good way to playing again tennis, yeah, on a high level.

Garbine Muguruza also continued her fine form with a surprisingly comfortable 6-3, 6-4 win against the powerful Svetlana Kuznetsova. There was a mere resigned shake of her head when Williams eased to three match points and moments later she was gone.

Williams beat Jelena Ostapenko in straight sets to move into the Wimbledon semi-finals - leaving her just two games away from Wimbledon glory.
