Jaguar E-PACE Does an Actual Barrel Roll

Jaguar E-PACE Does an Actual Barrel Roll

The E-Pace is Jaguar's third SUV, after the aforementioned F-Pace and the I-Pace electric vehicle concept, which will go on sale in 2018.

No, it's not the all-battery SUV coming next year. Jaguar are confident they'll come, based on projections and the success of the F-PACE. In all, it's an even more attractive space than the F-Pace's. Eleven body colours are available, and optionally the entire roof can be painted black or fitted with a panoramic sunroof.

Jaguar says that primary controls have been created to promote driver engagement, while secondary controls have been made simpler and more intuitive to use.

The E-Pace will be offered with a range of 2.0-litre, four-cylinder petrol and diesel Ingenium engines with power outputs from a 148bhp diesel to a 296bhp petrol with a torque spread between 269 to 369lb ft of depending on the engine's power output.

Speaking about his new record, Grant said: "As far as I am aware no production vehicle has ever cleanly completed a bona-fide barrel roll and therefore it has always been an ambition of mine to perform one ever since I was a boy". The tightly composed cockpit has similar climate-control knobs with embedded digital readouts, and the dash itself has stitched seams that lend it a neatly tailored appearance.

But E-PACE is a departure from traditional Jags as well. That'll be good for a 0-60 miles per hour time of 5.9 seconds, with a top speed slightly increased to 151 miles per hour. The 246-hp version checks in at 6.6 seconds and 143 miles per hour.

So far we have only seen heavily camouflaged images of the E-Pace obscuring the car's overall looks but revealed some things about the car's shape.

Next year, the E-Pace will be followed into showrooms by a production version of the I-Pace that's expected to be priced from about £60,000, while a larger model - possibly called the J-Pace - is expected in 2020. The gearbox has an Eco mode to slow down throttle and to upshift rapidly, while Dynamic models hang in lower gears longer and push fuel through more quickly.

Tick a few boxes on the order form and the E-Pace can be kitted out with a family-sized amount of technology. The next step is a 177bhp diesel with a little more torque, which is yours with manual or ZF nine-speed automatic transmissions. The system can transfer nearly all engine torque to either the front or rear axles in extreme conditions.

Stylistically speaking, this new SUV appears to have more in common with the F-Type sports auto than the F-Pace sport utility, with plenty of design cues pulled from the latest version of the handsome two-door.

Well, Jaguar ensured that tall passengers are equally comfortable inside the E-Pace's cabin and the tall seating position helps the case. Well, today is that day and Jaguar has delivered, starting with a ridiculous barrel roll at the launch event. Safety features will include lane-departure warnings, blind-spot monitors, and adaptive cruise control. Finally, the E-PACE First Edition will be $53,550.

Every model comes standard with a 10.0-inch touchscreen using the latest iteration of Jaguar Land Rover's corporate InTouch Pro infotainment system. Two premium Meridian audio systems and a head-up display are available.
