Iran FM criticizes United States policy towards nuke deal

The administration is reportedly likely to once again grudgingly recertify Iran's compliance, meaning the nuclear-related sanctions relief will continue.

As a candidate and president, Trump has said he would reexamine and possibly kill what he called the "disastrous" nuclear deal that was negotiated under President Barack Obama and went into effect in January a year ago.

According to The Weekly Standard, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has been the leading advocate for recertifying the deal, which is also backed by Secretary of Defense James Mattis. But Tillerson and Mattis noted that worldwide monitors and US allies have assessed the opposite, and said that any sharp change in USA posture should await completion of an ongoing administration review of overall policy toward Iran. That report, due 180 days after Trump's inauguration, was part of restrictions lawmakers put on the agreement, as was the 90-day certification requirement.

"The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) proved that followers of the policy of pressure have finally realized its inefficiency, therefore, the USA should also reconsider its approach towards the agreement", Iran's IRNA news agency quoted Zarif as saying in NY. The International Atomic Energy Agency and United Nations have stated that the Islamic Republic is complying with the agreement, as many USA congressmen, especially those in Trump's republican party, have been accused of politicizing the deal, alleging Tehran's links to sanctioned individuals or groups designated on its "terrorist" lists.

The final press conference of Iran nuclear talks in Vienna, Austria on July 14, 2015. "The president has been very frank about his opinion".

"The worst deal I think I've ever seen negotiated that you started is the Iran deal". It belongs to the worldwide community, to the United Nations system.
