Jonathon Simmons, Magic reportedly agree to three-year contract

Jonathon Simmons, Magic reportedly agree to three-year contract

Unrestricted free agent Jonathon Simmons has had no talking with the San Antonio Spurs ever since the team pulled his qualifying offer on Thursday morning, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical. While his numbers during the 2016-17 regular season - 6.2 points in 17.8 minutes per game - were pedestrian, come the postseason, he showed he was ready for a more significant role.

Simmons was discovered by the Spurs and moved up through the D-League before finding himself making the San Antonio roster.

However, San Antonio's reluctance to take on the two years remaining on center Tyson Chandler's contract (approximately $26 million) resulted in the deal being nixed.

Simmons, an un-drafted free agent out of Houston, performed extremely well for San Antonio this past season. In four games with the Mavericks, he averaged 16.5 points and 5.5 rebounds while he tallied 14.3 points and 5.0 boards in three games with the Cavaliers. In 24 games for the Magic, Ross averaged 12.5 points and 2.8 rebounds per contest.
