2nd man in custody connected to killings of 4 Pa. men

2nd man in custody connected to killings of 4 Pa. men

A man who confessed to killing four men who disappeared last week in Pennsylvania's Bucks County and his suspected co-conspirator were hit with homicide charges Friday as gruesome details emerged surrounding the deaths.

The mysterious case of the missing men - all between the ages of 19 and 22 - has transfixed this region since all four vanished last week.

That all changed with a pair of stark revelations Thursday.

The body of one of the missing men, 19-year-old Dean Finocchiaro, was found in the grave, Bucks County District Attorney Matthew Weintraub said earlier Thursday. In seeking $5 million bail on a stolen vehicle charge related to the missing men this week, prosecutors said DiNardo had been diagnosed with schizophrenia.

DiNardo was being held on $5 million cash bail before his confession, accused of stealing and attempting to sell a auto belonging to Thomas Meo to a friend for $500.

The owners of the property where authorities have centered their search for four missing Pennsylvania men say they are cooperating with the investigation.

DiNardo has agreed to plead guilty to four first-degree murder counts, attorney Paul Lang said.

Prosecutors indicated DiNardo had been diagnosed with schizophrenia.

Both DiNardo and the second person of interest have had run ins with the law in recent years.

Dinardo was released on bail on Tuesday when his father paid 10% of the $1 million bail in cash. That only added to the speculation and rumors before DiNardo's confession.

"I'm sorry", he said on Thursday as he was led into a police van.

He was arrested on Monday on an unrelated gun charge dating from February, accused of illegally possessing a shotgun and ammunition after being involuntarily committed to a mental institution. Text messages shared by an unidentified source involved in a conversation with DiNardo on the app Snapchat revealed the 20-year-old's apparent lack of concern for the missing boys.

The FBI had been using heavy equipment to dig a deep ditch on the farm property, and then sifting through each bucket of dirt by hand.

Inside the farm, investigators have been at work digging deep into the ground. That information led searchers Thursday night to Patrick's body, buried at least a quarter-mile from the others on what Weintraub described as a small mountain.

A judge dismissed the charge in May, but the Bucks County district attorney's office authorized police to reinstate and refile charges last month.

From left, Dean Finocchiaro, 19, Tom Meo, 21, Jimi Taro Patrick, 19, and Mark Sturgis, 22, are seen in a photo combination. Dinardo picked up Kratz, his cousin, and the two drove to Finocchiaro's house and planned to rob him, the affidavit states.

DiNardo is "known to be suffering from mental illness".

The newspaper reported that his latest hearing in the matter was rescheduled because he "had medical issues".

Police had found Meo's Nissan Maxima on Sunday at 4 a.m. on the Dinardos' property and discovered the car's title, unsigned by Meo, along with his insulin kit for diabetes.

Weintraub said that had the death penalty not been taken off the table to get a confession from DiNardo, they may not have found Patrick's body. "We will also find ways to celebrate Jimi's life and memory".

As far as Sean Kratz's criminal history, we know he has an open charge of robbery out of Philadelphia...
