'Trump, I love you,' and 'Putin Won' greet president at Open

'Trump, I love you,' and 'Putin Won' greet president at Open

Trump was greeted by cheers and applause from spectators at the golf course when he arrived Saturday.

That poses a security challenge since Trump's residence is on the course, where fans and players pass by throughout the day.

But the organization ultimately doubled down on its decision to hold the event at the president's golf club, arguing that it would not pull the tournament from its announced location for political reasons.

The president had sent a message on Twitter saying that he would be attending the event.

Mr. Trump then followed for one hour in the second round of the competition, which took place in large part under the rain, in front of a television screen in a temporary structure installed close to the hole N. 15.

Trump, whose course was named to host the 72nd edition of the event in 2012, long before the real estate magnate and reality TV star entered politics, arrived on Friday to become the first sitting US president to attend the championship.

The association Ultraviolet had so disrupted the course of a tournament, the LPGA Founders Cup in march in Phoenix (Arizona), deploying banners demanding the cancellation of the US Open after about machismo required by Mr. Trump during the presidential campaign. She is seeking her fifth top-five finish in the U.S. Women's Open in the past five years.
