Teenager arrested following a series of acid attacks in northwest London

Teenager arrested following a series of acid attacks in northwest London

According to police, that fourth victim has suffered "life-changing" injuries to his face and remains hospitalized.

All five victims of the attacks were all taken to hospital and one was described as being left with "life-changing" facial injuries.

A 16-YEAR-OLD has been arrested after series of acid attacks against scooter riders in London on Thursday night.

Little more than 20 minutes later, at about 10.50pm, the pair sprayed another victim with searing liquid on the Upper Street junction with Highbury Corner in Islington.

Police say they are investigating whether victims were targeted to steal their scooters.

The attack came 24 hours after a spate of acid attacks in east London carried out by males on mopeds. He was also taken to an east London hospital.

The unidentified suspect was questioned on suspicion of robbery and of causing grievous bodily harm.

Home Secretary Amber Rudd announced the move in the aftermath of the latest acid attack to hit the streets in London, in which five men were attacked over a 70-minute period on Thursday. At least two of those attacked were drivers for food delivery services Deliveroo and UberEATS.

London's police chief, Cressida Dick, said officers were concerned by the increase in the "completely barbaric" attacks. The victim was taken to a hospital in north London and police are waiting for an update on his condition.

The government said it was working with the police to see what more could be done to stop the use of acid for attacks. "All victims were riding mopeds at the time of the attacks, but were from a variety of backgrounds".

At 11.18pm, police received a call to a similar incident, a robbery in Cazenove Road, Stoke Newington, where a corrosive substance had been thrown.

The Met is already working with the Home Office and other police services to look at developing tougher regulations which make it more hard for people to purchase these substances. The Met Police's figures show there were 261 acid attacks in 2015, rising to 458 a year ago.

Possession of acid or other corrosive substances with the intention to do harm already carries a four-year maximum penalty.
