Venkaiah Naidu emerges as NDA's front-runner for Vice President

Venkaiah Naidu emerges as NDA's front-runner for Vice President

Raut also hit out at Congress president Sonia Gandhi for her remark on the President, saying that the presidential poll is a fight against "narrow-minded communal vision".

Mr Naidu, it is believed, needed some convincing.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Party President Amit Shah, Union Ministers Arun Jaitley, Nitin Gadkari, Sushma Swaraj, Venkaiah Naidu, J P Nadda, Thawar Chand Gehlot and Ananth Kumar were present in the meeting. Have always admired his hardwork & tenacity.

"Venkaiah Naidu is experienced". Venkaiah will play a crucial role in Rajya Sabha if elected since the ruling NDA has no majority in the Upper House of the Parliament. Venkaiah Naidu may be our next Vice-President informed sources and the official announcement will be out soon.

He has since been re-elected twice in 2004 and 2010 from Karnataka.

Born in 1949 in Andhra Pradesh, Venkaiah Naidu has risen through the ranks of the BJP and its precursors to become one of the most prominent faces of the party in recent times.

He also chaired Committee on Petitions and Committee on Home Affairs of the Rajya Sabha.

And there is also another danger for Naidu.

Naidu holds the charge of urban development, housing and poverty alleviation, and information and broadcasting ministries in the Union government.

The Bharatiya Janata Party may end the suspense over its vice-presidential pick on Monday as it holds a meeting with its National Democratic Alliance partners, before the deadline for filing of nomination.

The election for the post of vice president is on August 5 and the decision will be announced on the same day.

Naidu's victory seems to be a foregone conclusion as he has a clear lead over Opposition nominee Gopal Krishna Gandhi in an electoral college consisting of 790 parliamentarians.
