Russian foreign minister calls seizure of USA compounds 'daylight robbery'

Russian foreign minister calls seizure of USA compounds 'daylight robbery'

"We still hope that our American colleagues express some sort of political wisdom and political will".

'We have repeatedly said that we think any conditions are unacceptable.

Apparently alluding to Trump, Mr Peskov said he hoped the U.S. would be able to show some "political wisdom". "What is happening is - de facto and de jure - a violation of global law". This last happened in the afternoon at the State department without the slightest comment.

The question of the properties of diplomatic had been addressed "without ambiguities" by the Russian president Vladimir Putin during his meeting with his american counterpart Donald Trump on the sidelines of the G20 meeting in Hamburg on 7 July, said Dmitry Peskov. Nothing will be done until the Ukrainian & Syrian problems are solved!'

This litigation had to be at the centre of a meeting on Monday between the number three on the u.s. department of State Thomas Shannon, and the vice-minister of foreign Affairs of Russian Federation Sergey Riabkov.

The meeting comes as political Washington was rocked by daily revelations about a June meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and a Kremlin-linked lawyer where dirt on rival Hillary Clinton was promised in advance.

Putin did not retaliate to the seizure of the compounds at the time.

On Tuesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Moscow would take retaliatory measures against Washington if the situation with Russia's diplomatic property in the United States was not resolved.

Last December, then-President Barack Obama imposed a range of sanctions against the Russian government for its alleged meddling in the 2016 presidential election, including the closure of two Russian compounds located in New York State and Maryland.

The Washington Post later reported that the Obama administration struggled to find ways to retaliate against Moscow after the United States discovered that Putin was directly involved in a cyber campaign to disrupt and discredit the U.S. presidential race over two years ago.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova warned last month that the Kremlin could retaliate if the compounds were not returned. Also on Tuesday, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov told Sputnik that Moscow had prepared a "tough" response to the United States' move, among other options. Russian Federation has threatened to respond in kind but has also said it appreciates the 'difficult internal political situation.
