Samsung, PayPal ink strategic partnership

Samsung, PayPal ink strategic partnership

Today PayPal, a digital payment company, announced that now Samsung Pay users can use PayPal wherever Samsung Pay is accepted.

Coming soon, consumers in the USA will be able to use PayPal within Samsung Pay at millions of retailers.

As part of the agreement, PayPal will gain access to Samsung Pay services, which will allow Samsung Pay customers to pay with PayPal inside of their wallets, whilst allow PayPal's merchants to accept Samsung Pay.

First rolling out to users in the USA and then other countries, the team up combines Samsung's tap-to-pay platform with the digital wallet service. Once that's done, it'll work anywhere Samsung Pay is supported. Because of this, in addition to enabling consumers to pay with PayPal inside of their Samsung Pay wallets, we're also able to allow merchants to accept Samsung Pay.

This new partnership will also directly benefit Samsung as support for Samsung Pay will be coming to merchants who use PayPal's Braintree Direct service. It does not, however, support tap-and-pay using credit and debit cards like the main app.

PayPal is focused on delivering seamless mobile commerce experiences and extending this reach through strategic partnerships. We recently saw some of these results when Google announced they were partnering with PayPal to let Android Pay users choice PayPal as a payment option. Now, with the integration of PayPal wallet, customers can continue to use Samsung Pay in the most convenient way possible. "This partnership furthers our commitment to providing customers with a more convenient payment experience that is simple, secure and available nearly anywhere". Both the companies previously worked together to enable payments with fingerprint authentication.

"The partnership will help provide customers with various mobile payment services", said Rhee In-jong, the chief technology officer of Samsung's Mobile Communication Business.
