Updates on the Presidential Elections and Monsoon Session

The increased opposition synergy comes at a time when 18 parties have come together under one platform to pin the government on some key issues. The party is discussing with other Opposition parties to table an adjournment motion to discuss these issues.

The Opposition will be attacking the government on implementation of the new Goods and Services Tax (GST) in a haphazard manner triggering shutdown of shops by traders all over the country.

During the meeting, Mahajan will seek cooperation from floor leaders of different parties in the Lok Sabha to ensure smooth transaction of business in the House during the Monsoon Session of Parliament.

In an attempt to convince Opposition parties on the stand-off with China, the government on Friday and Saturday briefed their leaders and assured them the issue will be resolved diplomatically.

Both houses of Parliament were on Monday adjourned until Tuesday after making obituary references to members who passed away recently and to victims of Amarnath Yatra terror attack in which seven people were killed.

"Prime Minister Modi has asked the State Governments to take strict action against the anti-social elements creating violence in the name of cow vigilantism and punish them strictly", Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said after the all-party meeting here.

The Monsoon session of Parliament began today with obitury refrences and adjuned for the day after paying homge to to departed souls. The Prime Minister also called on all the parties to support the war against corruption, which has been initiated by the government.The Prime Minister also mentioned that the highest level of dignity has been maintained in the whole process of Presidential Election till now and no situation of any bitterness surfaced among the political parties.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had an example to set when the Lok Sabha opened for the Monsoon session.
