Chelsea have agreement with Madrid, Alvaro Morata travelling to London — Marca

Now Chelsea have taken the nearly inevitable step of signing the Real Madrid forward with a reported €80 million fee agreed between the Premier League and La Liga champions.

Antonio Conte wanted to sign Morata at Juventus in 2014 but the Spaniard arrived in Turin just a few weeks after the Italian had resigned as the Old Lady's boss.

The Spanish champions have been pushing for £75million for the 24-year-old and believe a deal can be concluded with Chelsea.

He played second fiddle to Dani Carvajal last term and Real are willing to let him leave.

Although Conte sees no future for Costa at Chelsea, the lack of striker alternatives (especially once Romelu Lukaku had joined Manchester United) meant that he had to kept around as an insurance poicly. Now the Spanish worldwide striker (who has nine goals in 20 global appearances) is heading to west London.

In a short statement, the Blues said: "Chelsea Football Club and Real Madrid have agreed terms for the transfer of Alvaro Morata to Stamford Bridge".

At the same time, he struggled to get regular starts under Zinedine Zidane with Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema being the two players he had to compete with. Overall he has netted 25 goals in 63 La Liga appearances for Real Madrid over the years with most of his appearances coming off the bench.

The deal will also be a timely boost for Conte who had endured frustration after failing to land either Lukaku or another potential signing, Borussia Dortmund's Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

Morata is set to become Chelsea's fourth signing of the summer after the Blues confirmed deals to sign Willy Caballero, Antonio Rudiger and Tiemoue Bakayoko.
