Coffee recalled for Viagra-like ingredient

Coffee recalled for Viagra-like ingredient

The ingredient is similar in structure to sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra- a drug prescribed for erectile dysfunction.

The FDA said the coffee also contains undeclared milk.

But the undeclared ingredient might interact with some prescription drugs and may lower blood pressure to unsafe levels, according to the FDA.

Desmethyl carbodenafil is structurally similar to sildenafil, the active ingredient in Viagra.

A coffee product is being recalled for containing a rather odd ingredient. Those who are allergic or sensitive to milk are at risk of potentially life-threatening reactions.

Desmethyl carbodenafil may interact with nitrates in some prescription drugs and may reduce blood pressure to unsafe levels.

The coffee, which is packaged in 13 grams red pack, is used as a male enhancement product. Men with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or heart disease often take nitrates. It was also sold on the internet. No illnesses have been reported, but the FDA says the undisclosed products may poorly interact with other prescription drugs. But those who purchased the product are urged to stop using the coffee and to contact their physicians.

The company asks consumers to return the product to Bestherbs Coffee LLC, 4250 Claremont Dr, Grand Priarie, TX 75052.
