Teenage German girl captured during Iraqi liberation of Mosul

Teenage German girl captured during Iraqi liberation of Mosul

Prosecutors say a German girl who ran away from home shortly after converting to Islam is among those found in Iraq.

The girl was "too stunned" to speak on the day of her arrest, Iraqi officials said, but now she is doing better. Iraqi officals said the teenager was with the extremist group and worked for the ISIS police department.

Linda W. could theoretically face the death sentence, according to Iraqi's counter-terrorism law.

German officials in her home state of Saxony on July 22 confirmed that the girl was from the eastern state and that she was being assisted by the German Embassy in Iraq.

The senior cleric said the terrorists and their accomplices captured by Iraqi troops in Mosul should not be mistreated or tortured.

Fatima M. reportedly fled from Chechnya to Austria at the age of fifteen, and then married a German national, Mogamed A. The family, including two children, later joined IS and traveled to Mosul.

Haase said "the public prosecutor's office Dresden has not applied for an arrest warrant and will therefore not be able to request extradition".

To carry out some of its bloodiest attacks, the Islamic State has weaponized everyday vehicles - from sedans to tractors - for use as precision-guided munitions. Their husbands were IS fighters, the officials said.

Experts says they don't know why ISIS didn't use the substance to make dirty bombs but speculate that they didn't have the knowledge to dismantle the machines holding it without exposing themselves to radiation.

The northern city of Mosul was finally liberated a few days ago. "They might be in Badush prison", he was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

She had converted to Islam shortly before she ran away from home a year ago.

Last week, Iraqi troops found Wenzel along with four other German women in a tunnel under the Old City.

"It was very surprising, though, that the girl has been radicalized in such a way", Pulsnitz Mayor Barbara Lueke said. She described the teenager's family as very reclusive. "There is a very challenging situation", he added.

The issue is expected to gather momentum with the visit of Iraqi Foreign Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari, who arrives in India on Monday on a five-day visit. Two were men and eight were children.
