Teenager jumps out of a plane in San Francisco

Teenager jumps out of a plane in San Francisco

Shortly after Copa Airlines Flight 208 from Panama City landed in San Francisco, an unidentified passenger rushed for the emergency door situated in the middle of the aircraft and jumped out of the plane.

The 17-year old USA citizen, who was described as being fidgety and anxious during the flight, had just arrived about 2:30 p.m. after traveling alone from Panama City onboard Copa Airlines, according to the Associated Press.

The teen, a USA citizen, was flying by himself from Panama City, Panama, to San Francisco and appeared to be in emotional distress during the flight, said San Francisco Airport spokesman Doug Yakel.

Other passengers said the teen appeared fidgety and anxious during the seven-hour flight from Panama City.

Customs and Border Protection is investigating the incident. "The door's open. Someone jumped off, '" he said.

The 17-year-old was not identified, but the statement said he was a USA citizen and traveling by himself. Though, a passenger named Isaac Rodrigues said that since there was no door to close, the flight attendant used her body to block the gap so that the plane could continue to the gate, reported AP. The teen will also be transported to a hospital for psychiatric evaluation.

The boy reportedly started running on the tarmac before being intercepted by construction workers. He was not injured during the incident. The passenger has been taken into custody by law enforcement.

"People were yelling, 'Tell the flight attendants".

The airline said it was cooperating with authorities in the investigation. After opening the emergency door, he slid down the wing and finally jumped down onto the tarmac.
