Six figure pay to protect Earth from aliens — NASA Jobs

Six figure pay to protect Earth from aliens — NASA Jobs

Nasa is looking for a planetary protection officer, who will help safeguard Earth from alien bacteria, according to a report by the Guardian.

"This new job ad is a result of relocating the position I now hold to the Office of Safety and Mission Assurance, which is an independent technical authority within NASA", Conley told Business Insider.

But for those getting their inner Sigourney Weaver all Ripleyed up, it's not about staving off aliens with big teeth, enemy warships or even errant asteroids. Also the job position also expects an officer to always make sure humans do not contaminate other worlds as well.

Initially, the job is a three-year contract that could be extended for an additional two years. The position with Nasa comes with a salary of up to $187,000 (around Rs 1.2 crore) a year. It's a full-time gig.

During this tenure of 3-5 years, NASA will be holding several missions to find the existence of aliens in the outer space.

"Planetary protection is concerned with the avoidance of organic-constituent and biological contamination in human and robotic space exploration", NASA wrote on its website. Oh, and you would get mid-level security clearance if hired. The job requires frequent travel, but only USA citizens and nationals can apply, added the report. Of course, you also need to have extensive knowledge of physics, engineering and math, so, um, maybe brush up on your algebra before you apply.

Candidates must also have expertise on planetary protection: "This includes demonstrated technical expertise to independently form technically sound judgments and evaluations in considerably complex situations".

The job ad says that "frequent travel may be required", although it does not specify whether that is simply on Earth, or around the solar system too.
