Microsoft Windows Will Soon Have Eye Tracking Technology

Microsoft Windows Will Soon Have Eye Tracking Technology

But before this massive upgrade appears, the tech giant has just announced the ninth build of the upcoming update that brings a number of nifty additions to the OS that was first released in 2015. The latest preview build also allows participants of both the Windows Insider and Office Insider programs to incorporate 3D objects into their Word, Excel and PowerPoint files.

"Because it's a raw ISO link with limited installation guidance, only working on specific devices and versions of Windows 10 or in virtualised machines, this is very much meant only for developers and IT pros - not consumers to broadly download/switch to Windows 10 S", Microsoft warned.

As soon as you activate Eye Control, a little "launchpad" will appear on the screen, and depending on where you lay your eyes, the system will let you use your eyes as a mouse, fire up an on-screen keyboard (US layout only, for now), activate text-to-speech, or reposition UI elements.

Microsoft's integral eye tracking feature is taking another turn today.

For example, when using the keyboard, the user only needs to dwell at the characters they want to type and the software handles the rest.

The technology, which came out of a 2014 hackathon event, now only supports the US English language keyboard.

To test out the beta of Eye Control you will need a Tobii Eye Tracker 4C (support for Tobii Dynavox PCEye Mini, PCEyePlus, EyeMobile Plus and I-series will be coming next).

We've seen eye-tracking technology make PC gaming more immersive, and now Microsoft is building it right into Windows itself, so you can navigate and type with just your eyes.

Other Edge improvements include a new look inspired by Microsoft's Fluent Design System, and several fixes for issues. This feature will use the default text-to-speech voices, which can be changed in Settings Time & Language Speech Text-to-speech.

Now, with the release of Windows 10 Insider build 16257, changes have been made to the default color values to make darker colors on modern screens more legible.

Moving to the Microsoft Console aka command prompt that has now been overhauled to include a new colour scheme for the first time in more than 20 years. This update, according to Microsoft, will give the Console a more modern look and feel than what you are used to. In the more than two decades since their introduction, though, these colours have remained unchanged - and that, Microsoft intern Craig Loewen argues, has been a thorn in everyone's side.

As for input improvements, the touch keyboard now launches faster from the taskbar. The update also comes with a bunch of bug fixes related to dictation as well as Japanese keyboards. How about a Drone?
