UN Approves New North Korea Sanctions Over Missile Tests

UN Approves New North Korea Sanctions Over Missile Tests

The obstacle came one day after the U.N. Security Council on Saturday unanimously approved new sanctions against North Korea in the wake of the communist nation's first successful tests of ICBMs capable of reaching the USA mainland.

Haley said: "It's going to make a strong point to North Korea that all of this ICBM and this nuclear irresponsibility has to stop".

The resolution reiterates language from previous ones supporting a return to six-party talks with the goal of denuclearizing the Korean Peninsula; expressing the Security Council's commitment "to a peaceful, diplomatic and political solution to the situation"; and stressing the importance of maintaining peace and stability in northeast Asia.

Australia will slap travel bans and financial sanctions on several people and businesses as part of broader worldwide actions against North Korea. "The ball is North Korea's court". "This was a strong day in the UN, it was a strong day for the United States and it was a strong day for the global community".

The sanctions ban countries from buying North Korean coal, iron, iron ore, lead, lead ore and seafood. "We're working this one hard, and a lot of other countries care about it just as much as we do".

China's representative to the U.N., Liu Jieyi, said North Korea needed to "cease taking actions that might further escalate tensions", Reuters reported.

The resolution's adoption follows North Korea's first successful tests of intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of reaching the United States on July 3 and July 27. The resolution also imposes new restrictions on North Korea's Foreign Trade Bank and bans the country from increasing the number of workers it sends overseas.

And hard currency is what North Korea needs to fund its missile tests.

Though China condemned North Korea's missile tests, it also called on the U.S.to stop deploying its THAAD missile defense system in South Korea. However, McMaster was concerned that any military attack on North Korea would become an expensive and devastating war for South Koreans to endure.

U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, in Manila for talks with regional counterparts, called it "a good outcome".

Russia's U.N. Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia said Moscow hopes Tillerson's assurances "would be clear that the United States is not seeking to dismantle the existing. situation (in North Korea) or to force to reunite the country or militarily intervene in the country".

The Security Council vote was held against the backdrop of mixed signals by the Trump administration on how to deal with North Korea, which has remained in a suspended state of war with the USA since the Korean War armistice in 1953.
