Mike Pence: We Are Focused On Trump Re-Election In 2020

Vice President Mike Pence is firing back after the New York Times published an article about a Republican "shadow campaign" and condemned the article as "fake news" and "absurd", in a statement released on Sunday. The report listed several "shadow candidates", including the vice president, who allegedly indicated his ambitions by creating the "Great America Committee" to raise funds, while "multiple advisers" reportedly "intimated to party donors that he would plan to run if Mr. Trump did not".

But Mr Pence called the article "fake news" and said his entire team was focused on advancing Mr Trump's agenda and seeing him re-elected in 2020.

"The allegations in this article ... represent just the latest attempt by the media to divide this administration", Mr Pence said in the statement.

The statement went on to say the suggestion that Pence was not working exclusively for Trump's agenda and re-election was "laughable and absurd".

The NYT responded to the VP's statement, defending their reporting and said they were "confident of their accuracy".

The congresswoman warned that impeachment could be a possibility if the president fires special counsel Robert Mueller, who was appointed by the Justice Department to probe Russian election meddling and possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow.

Conway said that numerous people quoted in the story had likely never won a presidential campaign and were part of a culture in the Republican Party that too often rewarded losers.

Conway also blasted what she said was a "staff infection" in politics where "people who are rewarded for losses" and have never "won a national political campaign".

It notes Pence's political schedule and active fundraising, though it also says unnamed advisers have signaled that he'd only run if Trump doesn't.

Kellyanne Conway, a close advisor to Donald Trump, said Sunday on ABC have "zero concern" on the ambitions assumed the vice-president and of the assertions of the press referred to as "fiction" full. "That is complete fabrication", she said.

The paper reported on speculation that a number of Republicans could be thinking about running in 2020-ranging from Gov. John Kasich to Vice President Mike Pence. Nikki Haley, the ambassador to the United Nations, put her longtime pollster on the payroll and has become better acquainted with NY financiers.
