President Trump tweets insults at CT senator

At 7:32 a.m. Eastern Time on Monday, President Trump proclaimed that despite the fact he's scheduled to spend the next two weeks away from the White House at his private golf club in New Jersey, he's still working hard.

President Donald Trump on Monday attacked Connecticut Senator Richard Blumenthal over his military service record minutes after the Democratic lawmaker criticized the Trump administration on CNN.

"Never in U.S.history has anyone lied or defrauded voters like Senator Richard Blumenthal", Trump wrote on Twitter shortly afterward. Trump then tweeted again, calling Blumenthal "one of the greatest military frauds in USA history". "Now he judges collusion?" During an interview with Howard Stern, Trump once called his sexual conquests while avoiding sexually transmitted diseases his own "personal Vietnam".

"Your bullying hasn't worked before and it won't work now". At one point, Blumenthal was asked if he's anxious that the Trump-Russia scandal might distract Democrats from focusing on issues that affect Americans more directly, like the economy.

Blumenthal hit back at Trump's tweets, accusing the president of bullying, and referred to the ongoing investigaton into the Trump camp's alleged Russian Federation ties by Special Counsel Robert Mueller. No one is above the law. Blumenthal's story was later clarified, showing that he actually served in the Marine Corps Reserve in the 1970s, around the same time of the war.

When The New York Times exposed him, he apologized in a press conference surrounded by veterans.

Blumenthal came under criticism for remarks he made about having "served" in Vietnam despite never leaving the United States when was in the Marines.

In May, Blumenthal argued a special prosecutor was needed to investigate the Trump campaign's ties to Russian Federation after Trump fired FBI Director James Comey. Repeating his attacks, Trump accused Blumenthal of devising "one of the greatest military frauds in US history" and argued the senator "should be investigated for his acts". The senator admitted in 2010 to misrepresenting his military service after saying he had been "in" Vietnam. Later Monday, Blumenthal announced legislation to protect special counsel from interference.
