The attack was a deliberate act

The attack was a deliberate act

The driver is on the run.

A manhunt has been launched after a auto ploughed into anti-terror soldiers in the northwestern suburbs of Paris on Wednesday morning, injuring six, according to The Local.

Six French soldiers injured in a vehicle attack in Paris on Wednesday morning, police said. Police have closed off the roads.

One official said the attacker struck in the Place de Verdun just as a group of soldiers emerged from the building to board vehicles for a new shift. However, the interior minister said after visiting three of the soldiers with Defense Minister Florence Parly that all of them were expected to recover.

The motive of the attack is still unknown, though local mayor Patrick Balkany said the incident had "without any doubt" been deliberate.

Another attack on the Champs Elysee in April saw a French gunman open fire on police officers, killing one and leaving two others in a critical condition.

Balkany described the driver of the vehicle as a "terrorist".

He told investigators he wanted to kill a soldier, sources close to the case told AFP.

The troops from the French army's 35th Regiment were participating in Operation Sentinel, anti-terror patrols put in place following the January 2015 terror attacks on the offices of Charlie Hebdo.

French police are searching for a driver who ploughed into soldiers of Operation Sentinelle, which is part of France's ongoing state of emergency introduced after the November 2015 terrorist attacks. "The BMW accelerated very quickly the moment they came out".

Four soldiers have been left with minor injuries, while two are seriously hurt and have been taken to a nearby military hospital.

Speaking to lawmakers, Prime Minister Edouard Philippe confirmed that the suspect was apprehended on a highway in northern France, and was driving the vehicle used in the attack.

In June, an Algerian doctorate student who had reportedly pledged allegiance to the Islamic State group attacked a policeman with a hammer outside Notre Dame cathedral.

It was the latest of several attacks targeting security forces guarding France over the past year.
