Chelsea launch £25m bid

Chelsea launch £25m bid

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has the ability to step up another level this season, according to Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.

Chamberlain has just one year left in his Arsenal contract and has been unable to reach an agreement with the club on a new deal.

Oxlade-Chamberlain had a fantastic season for Arsenal a year ago, playing in a variety of positions, including right wing, central midfield, and even as a right wing back.

Reports have suggested the 23-year-old is looking for a fresh challenge after growing frustrated at Arsenal, with Liverpool thought to be the midfielder's preferred destination.

Chelsea have been encouraged by his contract situation at Arsenal and are ready for a £25m swoop.

According to the Daily Star, the Blues have already offered £25m but are willing to increase their bid in an effort to land the England worldwide.

Antonio Conte has vented his frustration at the lack of signings this summer, despite securing four players so far, as the Blues boss knows he needs a much stronger squad if Chelsea are to compete on all fronts.

Liverpool are reportedly more open to that idea, but have not quite shown as much of an interest.

"Personally, I think he is a hugely talented player", said Wenger. "He's had some small injuries but previous year he was much more stable".

"He is today very conscious of his qualities as well, which he was not always, and I personally believe he will be a very great player". He will continute to move up beecause the potential is there.
