Trump slams McConnell for ObamaCare repeal failure

Trump slams McConnell for ObamaCare repeal failure

The latest jab from the president toward the majority leader comes just after Trump gave McConnell a political win on Tuesday night when the president threw his support behind Sen.

Since 2010, Republicans have vowed to pass a bill to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, former president Barack Obama's signature domestic legislative achievement that has provided health insurance to millions of Americans.

"Yet it's now the second week of August, none of these things have been done, and Mitch McConnell is making excuses and blaming others while the Senate is on a monthlong recess", he said. All I hear is repeal and replace, and then I get there and I said where's the bill? Trump tweeted at 6:54 AM.

Trump elevated Neil Chatterjee, McConnell's longtime energy adviser, to head the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, or FERC, for at least the next few weeks.

The White House also confirmed earlier press reports that the President and McConnell had spoken by telephone on Wednesday before Mr. Trump first tweeted his displeasure with the Senate Majority Leader.

Trump tweeted Thursday morning that McConnell has "screamed" for seven years about the need to repeal and replace the ACA but "couldn't get it done". "You can do it!" The administration has also been mired in investigations into contacts between his presidential campaign and Russian Federation, and distracted by infighting among high-level White House staff. Now he's going after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), a key leader in his own party.

Changes to the health care system are looking less and less likely this year.

The comments were some of the sharpest the Kentucky Republican has had for the president.

Well, no one ever accused Trump of stopping while he was behind. But in the absence of that, we're going to be moving on. "Some people may think we are under-performing and may have set some artificial deadlines, while the realities of legislation might not be fully understood".

Asked to respond to Trump's statement, McConnell spokesman David Popp said, "The leader has spoken repeatedly about the path forward regarding Obamacare repeal and replace on the Senate floor, at media availabilities and in Kentucky".

"Senator Mitch McConnell said I had 'excessive expectations, ' but I don't think so", Trump tweeted. On his campaign website, Brooks said, "Mitch McConnell and the Swamp managed to mislead the President last night". When they continue to ignore his heckling, it will be Trump who, once again, looks impotent.

McConnell, who has been relatively measured in his previous critiques of the White House, argued the president's approach to the legislative process is leading to an inaccurate impression of how Congress works.
