Man charged with killing Missouri officer arrested

Man charged with killing Missouri officer arrested

Shooting suspect Ian McCarthy is being held at the Henry County Jail.

Ian McCarthy is charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of Clinton police Officer Gary Michael during a traffic stop on Sunday. Police say he agreed to show police the guns at his house in Clinton.

McCarthy was convicted of stabbing Michael Pawlick, 23 at the time, during a fight involving at least seven young men at Maple and Auburn streets in Manchester during 2001, police said.

The officer told him he knew the answer to his own question.

Noble allegedly pointed to the water and told police that's where he threw it. Police say they could see the stock of the weapon under the water. He took the two officers to the creek Thursday, where they recovered a rifle that "meets the description and appears to me to be the weapon used in the murder", according to the probable cause statement. Police say Noble acted like he was visibly upset and faked crying. When asked why he was behaving that way, he told police he had sold the gun to McCarthy. He eventually changed his story and acknowledged that McCarthy asked him to buy the rifle for him.

He also was wanted at the time of his arrest on a warrant out of Johnson County, Missouri, issued in 2015 for unlawful possession of a firearm.

Police asked Noble if he knew where the gun now was.

Lowe earlier said that a gun had been found in a creek about two miles north of Clinton.

On Thursday, the officers drove him to the location outside the city and found the gun in water near the intersection of NW 300th and NW 131st roads.

A visitation for Michael will be held from 6 p.m.to 9 p.m. Friday at the Vansant-Mills Funeral Home in Clinton.

Investigators have said it's possible that other people helped McCarthy by giving him a ride or clothes.

Investigators have said that Michael was killed when the driver of a auto he stopped for a traffic violation in Clinton Sunday jumped out and shot him.
