Sharif's wife files nomination to contest his seat

Sharif's wife files nomination to contest his seat

Pakistan's ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif's wife Kulsoom Nawaz was today fielded by the ruling PML-N party as a candidate from the seat vacated by her husband who was disqualified by the Supreme Court last month.

Addressing a big gathering at Gujranwala city on his rally to Lahore, 67-year-old Sharif asked his supporters to pledge to come out on the roads with him to ensure the elected prime ministers of Pakistan are not humiliated anymore.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Pakistan's new premier who replaced Sharif a week after his July 28 disqualification, has ordered special measures for Sharif's safety.

Meanwhile, the Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs Khawaja Muhammad Asif departed from Sialkot with a huge gathering of PML-N workers and supporters to join the mammoth rally of Nawaz Sharif.

"What is unnecessary, undesirable and faintly undemocratic is for the party in government at the Centre and in Punjab to seemingly abandon all governance priorities to cheer on Sharif". "The court of the people of Pakistan has given its verdict in my favour", he said.

Nawaz Sharif has continued to protest his innocence in the wake of corruption allegations.

Sharif said that it was pity that none of the prime ministers in the 70-year history of the country have been allowed to complete their tenure.

Speeding cars accompanying Nawaz Sharif's "homecoming" motorcade crushed a nine-year-old child to death in Lalamusa on Friday, DawnNews reported. "The people should ask them why they ousted Nawaz Sharif when he had done no corruption", he said.

Sharif said that across his journey he saw that citizens had not accepted his disqualification and asked his supporters to await his next move, without elaborating.

Sharif said that he want people to support him for the betterment of the country.

So, with the disqualification of Nawaz Sharif, ruling Pakistan Muslim league Nawaz is technically a party with no head and as per ECP rules, its symbol can not be assigned to any candidate, reported Pakistan Today. "Are you qualified to disqualify me?"

Yasim Rashid, a doctor by profession contested General Elections in 2013 from the same seat against Nawaz Sharif bagging 52,354 votes in contrast to 91, 683 votes of former. "If you hold these people accountable for their deeds now then Pakistan will surely survive", he said.
