Usain Bolt Did Not Finish His Last Race at Worlds

Usain Bolt Did Not Finish His Last Race at Worlds

"One of the things that separates the all-time greats of this sport from the rest is their ability to deliver when it matters most", said Gabby and you just knew that was Bolt's chances gone. This is why everyone was so anxious for him to go out on a high note.

Bolt has amassed eight Olympic golds and 14 world medals, 11 of which are gold, the Jamaican having won two silvers in 2007 before his 100m bronze in London.

In defeat, the gracious Bolt even stopped to do his signature "To Di World" pose, much to the approval of adoring followers.

Anthony L. Hall is a Bahamian who descends from the Turks and Caicos Islands.

As it turned out, while Mr Bolt was good enough to take a bronze medal despite being way below the required level of preparedness, Miss Thompson, a double gold medallist at the Rio Olympics a year ago, could only manage fifth in London.

"I wanted to pay homage to him", Gatlin said. But Bolt did applaud Gatlin as he received his medal. After a decade of demonstrable superiority, particularly on the men's side, Jamaica's dominance has been disrupted at one of track and field's most consequential gatherings.

We note Miss Tracey's comment that, "I'm only looking forward from this".

Incidentally, the look of anguish on Bolt's face - when it struck him that he did not win - rivals that look in Edvard Munch's most famous painting.

Coleman, a 21-year-old in the first major race of his life, was in shock, too: "To beat someone I looked up to when I was growing up".

Bolt will be joined in the heats by a supporting cast of Tyquendo Tracey, Julian Forte and Michael Campbell - a few of the athletes who will be charged with keeping the island in the forefront of worldwide sprinting in the years to come. But hey, who knew?

"You guys call it losses, losses, losses", Gatlin said. "Over the years, this will be the team bringing in the golds".

I HAVE enjoyed watching the best athletes in the world return to London these past few days, in a little reminder of that great summer of sport in 2012.

A distraught Bolt was consoled on the ground by his sprint team-mates and he limped out of the stadium, not the way he probably envisaged his send-off going. Granted, this was because a member of his relay team tested positive. The Tokyo Olympics are three years away, and Usain Bolt won't be there.

Birds of a feather stick together.

Bolt acknowledged that Yohan Blake would likely come in for the final, all the while praising his less experienced relay teammates.

In fairness, Farah may never endear himself to fans quite like Bolt. For me, when I took my kids to the track that was lovely.

Frankly, Carl Lewis is the last sprinter who I am absolutely convinced won this event drug free.

But he is focused on the World Championships as he prepares to start the countdown to his marathon career. As always, Bolt delivered. "They're thinking and acting like veterans and I'm proud of them". They've been there through ups and downs throughout my career.

Gatlin has served two suspensions for doping offences.

The two-time world champion was later disqualified for deliberately knocking down a hurdle.

As Coe put it, what the crowd is going to miss is the personality, an athlete with humor, good grace as well as nearly insurmountable sprinting achievements.
