Pep Guardiola claims Premier League spending is 'unsustainable'

Pep Guardiola claims Premier League spending is 'unsustainable'

Pep Guardiola has praised the speed of Manchester City's summer transfer activity.

The south-coast side fell further behind in the 75th minute when Lewis Dunk, under pressure from Gabriel Jesus, headed Fernandinho's cross into his own net in Brighton's first game in the top-flight in 34 years.

City played Manchester United in Houston, Texas last month and while United won 2-0, thanks to goals from Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford, plenty of fans were impressed by Foden.

Gabriel made an immediate splash upon arriving from Palmeiras in January, scoring three goals in his first two Premier League starts and pushing the Argentina worldwide to the bench. We bought three and the market is so demanding not just for Manchester City.

"I saw last season how tough the league is - it doesn't matter who the top teams are".

"We had to be patient, in the first half they were well organised, we could see they had a clear game plan", Kompany told BT Sport.

"So whatever happens at the start of the season - and of course I hope we get off to a flier - we must stay calm and remember that it's where we are in the table after 38 games that matters, not the first few. It's normal that the players and supporters are going to be celebrating for a period of time, but we have had to come down to reality", Brighton boss Hughton said.

"Like every club that's promoted to the Premier League, it's to finish 17th or higher". If he wants us to play together we can, as we have already shown.

Afterwards the manager was predictably delighted with all the riches at his disposal and promised that City will "improve the way we attack" this season. "People say we are a big team but we run like a League One or a Conference team". I'm happy with what I've seen today. We are here to win games.

"The manager [Chris Hughton] is top, and they have the qualities in their players", Guardiola said.

Guardiola had a troubled debut campaign at Eastlands as the Spaniard failing to win a trophy for the first time in his storied managerial career. It is weird because as defensively fragile as they looked at times a year ago.
