Pakistan expresses concern over HR violation of Rohingya Muslims

A total of 87,000 mostly Rohingya refugees have arrived in Bangladesh since violence erupted in Burma's western state of Rakhine on August 25, and around 20,000 more are massed on the border waiting to enter, the United Nations said.

The Nobel Peace Prize victor, 20, told her fellow laureate that the "world is waiting" for her to act over unrest that has seen tens of thousands of people flee into neighbouring Bangladesh.

Bangladesh is also growing increasingly hostile to Rohingya, more than 400,000 of whom live in the poor South Asian country after fleeing Myanmar since the early 1990s.Indonesia is home to the world's largest population of Muslims.

Myanmar security forces have launched "clearance" operations to sweep out insurgents whose ranks appear to be swelling as male Rohingya villagers join their cause.

Almost 90,000 Rohingya have fled to Bangladesh since violence erupted in Myanmar in August, in the biggest political challenge facing the country's leader Suu Kyi, who stands accused by Western critics of not speaking out for the minority that has long complained of persecution.

In a statement, Malala called for a stop to the violence, the Rohingya to be given citizenship in Myanmar and for other countries, including her birthplace, Pakistan, to give shelter to those fleeing the conflict. Aid was being delivered to other parts of Rakhine state, it added.

Before a military siege was imposed on Rakhine late previous year, extremist Buddhists carried out several attacks on the ethnic Muslim minority. She won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014.

Earlier in the week, Myanmar's military reportedly said that nearly 400 people had died in clashes between the country's security forces and Rohingya Muslims.

"Aung Sang Suu Kyi is rightly regarded as one of the most inspiring figures of our age but the treatment of the Rohingya is alas besmirching the reputation of Burma", Mr Johnson said. I am still waiting for my fellow Nobel Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi to do the same.

Almost 90,000 Rohingya have fled to Bangladesh since violence erupted in Myanmar in August, Reuters reported.

The clashes and army crackdown have killed almost 400 people.

Yousafzai was awarded the Novel peace prize in 2014, becoming the youngest ever recipient, following her campaigns to get free eduction for girls everywhere.
