Look Nissan LEAF to go further

Look Nissan LEAF to go further

The Leaf also features Nissan's e-Pedal tech, which lets you accelerate, decelerate, and stop the vehicle by using just the accelerator pedal.

Tallying some of the mentioned cars, Model 3 can run up to 220 miles on a single charge, while the Chevrolet's Bolt can run you a good 238 miles. The new leaf also gets an updated body design, with a more aerodynamic so that it maximises the efficiency of its electric motor, and thereby extends the range of its batteries.

With a 150-mile driving range and a price tag of just $29,990 ($690 lower than the 2017 Leaf's), many consumers looking to buy an EV will find the new Leaf is just what they were asking for.

Hiroto Saikawa, president and chief executive officer of Nissan Motor Co., explains the features of the new Leaf at the Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba's Mihama Ward on September 6.

The zero-emissions vehicle - which Japanese automaker Nissan Motor Co. unveiled in the USA late Tuesday and in a Tokyo suburb Wednesday - promises a travel range of about 400 kilometers in Japanese driving conditions or 150 miles in the US, before needing another charge.

Much like the original Leaf, which launched at the end of 2010, the new vehicle is powered exclusively by a lithium-ion battery pack and electric motor, reports auto Buyer.

This second generation Nissan Leaf got unveiled on Wednesday in Tokyo with introducing the more tech, more power and more range than the older one. As far as performance goes, Nissan only admitted the 0-100 kph time has been lowered by 15 percent, the 60-100 kph sprint dropped 30 percent and the motor comes improved for 147 horsepower and 236 pound-feet of torque - with maximum speed again limited at 87 miles per hour - 140 kilometers per hour. Complementing this new drivetrain is the high-tech lithium-ion battery pack, which delivers increased power and energy storage capacity. While a "hands-on" system, it shows Nissan's drive to develop future autonomous drive technologies.

Other than that, there are some new assistive driving features by the Nissan Intelligent Mobility team, namely the e-Pedal and ProPilot systems.

There will also be ProPILOT autonomous drive technology, used only for single-lane driving on the highway.

Despite boosting, rival models can go much further than Nissan's latest offering. When the parking feature is activated, drivers can relax as the car's computer takes full control of steering, acceleration, braking and gear selection. As you press down on the accelerator or release pressure, the vehicle will go faster, slow down, or come to a halt completely.

We're happy to report the interior redesign also includes a new infotainment system, one that doesn't look like an afterthought glued to the dash.
