Syrian regime dropped chemical bomb on Khan Sheikhoun

Syrian regime dropped chemical bomb on Khan Sheikhoun

At least 83 people, a third of them children, were killed and almost 300 wounded in the attack on Khan Sheikhun, a town in the opposition-held northern province of Idlib, it said. Many of us did not believe Obama when he assured us that the deal with Russian Federation would end the threat of chemical weapons being used on Syrian civilians.

March 3, 2017: The OPCW says it is examining allegations of eight toxic gas attacks in Syria since the beginning of the year.

Human Rights Watch blames Syrian government forces for attacks there.

In the most conclusive findings to date from investigations into chemical weapons attacks during the conflict, the UN Commission of Inquiry on Syria said a government warplane dropped sarin on Khan Sheikhoun in Idlib province in April.

"The commission finds that there are reasonable grounds to believe that Syrian forces attacked Khan Sheikhoun with a sarin bomb at approximately 6.45 a.m. on 4 April, constituting the war crimes of using chemical weapons and indiscriminate attacks in a civilian inhabited area", the report said.

The Syrian government acknowledges for the first time that it has chemical weapons and threatens to use them in the event of military operations by Western countries, but not against its own population.

The UN dismissed that claim in their report. The plane is used only by the Syrian air force.

On April 4, the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces, supported by the United States, blamed Damascus for the Khan Sheikhoun chemical weapons incident that killed 80 people, including children, and injured 200 more. The report stated it was not able to identify perpetrators of the six other attacks.

The US launched a retaliatory cruise-missile strike days after the attack which targeted a Syrian air base alleged to have facilitated the attack.

The panel also said us air strikes on a mosque in Al-Jina in rural Aleppo in March that killed 38 people, including children, failed to take precautions in violation of worldwide law, but did not constitute a war crime.

The commission's report marked the first time that a United Nations body has explicitly accused the Syrian government of using sarin, a chemical that pushes the nervous system into overdrive and can kill in minutes.

The investigators also appealed to the US -led coalition to better protect civilians as it strikes at Islamic State militants in the east.

The Assad regime has repeatedly denied using chemical weapons. The report is based on information retrieved from satellite images, video, photos, medical records, and over 300 interviews.
