Trump Sours On Gary Cohn After Charlottesville Criticism

Reuters also reported Wednesday night that Trump has "soured" on naming Cohn the next Federal Reserve chairman and that he remains upset with Cohn.

Earlier today, the WSJ reported that Trump is unlikely to nominate Gary Cohn as the next Federal Reserve chairman, citing people familiar with his thinking. Trump is hoping to make a decision by the end of the year as current Chairwoman Janet Yellen's term ends in February 2018.

Mr Fischer, 73, a former economics professor and long-time central bank official, said he was resigning for personal reasons effective on or around Oct 13, eight months before his term expires. A White House official added Cohn remained a key player in Trump's fight for tax reform.

Another administration official said Trump was "considering several candidates" for the Fed.

Trump reportedly was furious with Cohn's comments that the White House "must do better" at condemning racism groups after Trump blamed "both sides" for violent clashes between white supremacists and counterprotestors in Charlottesville.

The cause of Cohn's fall was his reaction to the president's comments about violence in Charlottesville, Va. Charlottesville helped changed that.

White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and Director of the White House National Economic Council Gary Cohn chat as they arrive with U.S. President Donald Trump (unseen) at White House after a trip to Springfield, Missouri, in Washington D.C., August 30, 2017.

Cohn is one of the main architects of the administration's effort to reform the USA tax code and lower tax rates for individuals and corporations. Privately Cohn has told associates he was disgusted with the president's remarks.
