Ezekiel Elliott Posts Celebratory Instagram After Suspension Put on Hold

Ezekiel Elliott Posts Celebratory Instagram After Suspension Put on Hold

The temporary restraining order allows Elliott to play until a court rules on the lawsuit filed by the NFL Players Association claiming that an investigation into Elliott was unfair. There is a chance the 22-year-old will be allowed to play the entire 2017 season as the case makes its way through the court, according to multiple reports.

Originally handed a six-game suspension, Elliott was already cleared to suit up Sunday night against the Giants.

Henderson is the same person who reduced Greg Hardy's suspension from 10 games to 4 after Hardy was involved in a domestic violence incident. In October of 2016, Elliott rushed for 138 yards on 23 carries with a touchdown against the 49ers. Her statements are the driving evidence behind the allegations against Elliott, and those familiar with her account of the events say the private testimony is powerful.

Elliott's legal team issued a statement saying in part, "This is just the beginning of the unveiling of the NFL's mishandling as it relates to Mr. Elliott's suspension". That could mean the lawsuit will last the duration of the offseason, allowing Elliott to continue playing throughout his sophomore campaign.

Although this news doesn't abolish the six-game suspension, it will postpone when Elliott has to serve it. Based upon the preliminary injunction standard, the Court finds, that Elliott did not receive a fundamentally fair hearing, necessitating the Court grant the request for preliminary injunction.

After the decision came down on Friday, the NFLPA released a statement that condemned the NFL's discipline process. Though Robert Tobias, principal assistant city attorney in Columbus, Ohio, said criminal charges were never filed against Elliott because of a lack of sufficient corroborating evidence, he did tell the league: "We never concluded that she was lying to us".

Thus, even though the Court is not deciding whether the National Football League engaged in a conspiracy to achieve a certain result, the actions of the National Football League have to be considered in the Court's analysis of whether Henderson gave Elliott a fundamentally fair hearing. Elliott is, in fact, using the very same lawyer who took on Brady's case.

"We strongly believe that the investigation and evidence supported the Commissoner's decision and that the process was meticulous and fair throughout".

The ruling comes three days after league-appointed arbitrator Harold Henderson rejected Elliott's administrative appeal of the suspension and upheld the punishment. The suspension is related to accusations of domestic violence lobbied at Elliott by his former girlfriend, Tiffany Thompson.

The league concluded after a lengthy investigation that Elliott was violent toward his then-girlfriend in a series of incidents previous year.
