Travis Kelce says Patriots didn't respect Kansas City's offense

It was a sobering defeat for the Patriots, who are not used to teams coming into Foxborough and putting up much of a fight. That put the Chiefs up 28-27, given them a lead they would never relinquish.

"I'm not sure what it was", Kelce said.

■ Mike Gillislee's first carry as a Patriot went for a touchdown. With all the mistakes we saw, the Chiefs still played an incredible game against a very tough opponent in their own house. There was simply no answer by the Patriots to slow down the Chiefs on Thursday night, which Pro Bowl tight end Travis Kelce credits to the defending champions not showing his team any respect on the offensive side of the ball.

In fact in the last 14 seasons, the Patriots have lost only one home opener.

Make any excuse you want, but the Chiefs were clearly the better team in this game.

But when the Chiefs punched them in the face on that first 4th-and-inches situation minutes later and then drove 90 yards to tie the game, everything changed. He is a viable piece of this defense, and they will take a step back without him out there. The 25 share for Thursday's game was also down from last year's 29 share.

Patriots fans had launched the evening in raucous mood, raining boos down on NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell at the opening ceremonies. Even though Smith had a great game he was outshined by a rookie in his debut. This was something I had not seen from Smith prior to this game.

And it was a struggle because the offense fell flat in the one area Edelman provided its biggest boost: attitude and competitiveness. "I mean he was trying hard, tried maybe a step too hard and the ball popped out, but I am proud of him for getting right back on it and doing a good job". Now the question is, "Can he play like this consistently and into the playoffs?" And it was the first 300-yard passing game by Smith in almost two years. Can he consistently play at this level?

Brady had a frustrating night, throwing for 267 yards and no touchdowns. He only had five catches for 40 yards. "There are more records to be broken by him". I can't credit him enough. James White also failed to do so in the first. One could argue Hill making that gesture is baiting the Patriots.

A former University of Toledo standout, Hunt was selected by the Chiefs with the No. 86 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Houston was unmovable and made big plays against the Patriots running backs all game long.

He scored three touchdowns, one on the ground and two through the air, one of those on a 78-yard bomb from Alex Smith. Boy did it pay off.

Hunt showed that even in the National Football League he is hard to bring down.

While Hunt played extremely well, Smith was the straw that stirred the drink. Tailback Charcandrick West capped the upset with a 21-yard TD run.

"I think I said 1,000 times, I think we have a lot of work to do", Belichick responded, according to the Boston Herald.
