Florida Deputy and Corrections Officer Killed From Hurricane Irma

Florida Deputy and Corrections Officer Killed From Hurricane Irma

A Hardee County deputy and a motorist were killed in a two-car accident early Sunday morning, the Hardee County Sheriff's Office said. WPTV reported. The local news outlet reported Bridges left the shelter to get more supplies from her home to help take care of evacuees.

Hardee County Sheriff Arnold Lanier said Julie Bridges was a 13-year veteran of the sheriff's office. She was planning on returning to work another shift this morning when she was killed.

No other vehicles were involved and both Bridges and Ossman were the sole occupants of their vehicles, police said. The Florida Highway Patrol troopers are investigating the crash.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the Hardee County Sheriff's Department, the Florida Department of Corrections and their families!" Further details about what happened have not been released.

Three of those deaths were the results of vehicle accidents, with the first occurring in Monroe County when a man crashed his auto into a tree while carrying a generator to prepare for the storm.

Ossman, of Sebring, worked at the Hardee Correctional Institute.

At this time, it is not known what factor Hurricane Irma and related weather conditions played in the crash.
