Mostly sunny, slightly warmer Sunday

Temperatures will climb into the low to mid 70s this afternoon under ample sunshine! Some localized flooding is possible as some heavy showers fall across our state throughout the day. Wednesday afternoon highs are expected to reach the middle 70s under partly sunny skies. Near the coast, a sea breeze will develop since steering winds will be light. "Although Irma will be much less intense than further southeast, there will likely be strong and gusty winds across eastern portions of the Midsouth".

Irma is still a category 4 hurricane.

It will be mostly clear and quiet this evening. Temperatures will struggle to reach into the 70s and no severe weather is expected. Here in the mountains, we'll enjoy one more dry and mostly sunny day. Low: 73. High: 95. Click the image below to see the wind field forecast. High: 87. Wind: NE 10 miles per hour.

Next week, Irma will weaken as it continues inland. Despite a slight shift to the west, Irma will bring catastrophic wind damage, storm surge and torrential rain to the area beginning late tonight and continuing Sunday and into Monday.

Sunday: Mostly sunny, comfortable and warm. Irma now has sustained winds of 150-mph as it threads its way between Cuba and the Bahamas today.

Monday and Tuesday: Irma moves pass Tampa, Florida. Once the storm turns to a more northerly course, as it is expected to do, it will quickly regain strength over the warm waters of the Florida Straits and nearly certainly will remain a major hurricane. At the moment, it looks like the mid-south will see rain and cooler temps, but nothing like the impact the remnants of Harvey had on the mid-south.
