New Audi RS 4 Avant to cost from £61625

New Audi RS 4 Avant to cost from £61625

The new performance-oriented RS 4 Avant now gets a new engine that offers better performance. Yep, the glorious 4.2-litre N/A V8 has gone, usurped by a new 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 developed in collaboration with Porsche.

A little over two years back, Audi brought in the versatile RS6 Avant to Indian shores. "In common with all our RS models, it blends vast power output with superlative everyday utility".

Despite dropping from a V8, the V6, with its higher torque output available between 1900-5000rpm, is able to cover the 0-100km/h sprint in just 4.1 seconds. The top speed is 250 kph. If you don't option the RS dynamic package, top speed is limited to 155 miles per hour.

All of the power is channelled through an eight-speed automatic transmission, ditching the old dual-clutch auto, and feeding into an all-wheel drive system. Average fuel consumption is 8.8 litres per 100 kilometres. Weighing 80kg less than before, this RS4 is 17 per cent more efficient than its predecessor, hopefully making not only for a more agile and dynamic ride, but a more frugal one too. The new Audi RS 4 Avant will go on sale early 2018. Its front and rear arches are 30mm wider and it sits 7mm lower than an S4 thanks to the standard-fit RS sport suspension. A "rear sport differential" is optional, as are an adaptive sport suspension, "RS-specific" dynamic steering, and carbon-ceramic brakes. Drivers can define their own individual personal driving experience using the standard dynamic handling system Audi drive select. That's right, Audi is starting the roll-out of the B9 RS 4 lineup with the wagon. 20-inch wheels are optional. Standard specification for the RS4 Avant also includes RS-specific digital instruments, a head-up display and displays for G-force, tire pressure and torque. The styling packages gloss black, carbon with aluminium attachments and carbon with black attachments provide further scope for customization. The Audi Exclusive personalization program will also fulfill special customer requests as needed.

Audi will start taking orders for the RS 4 Avant this fall, with the first European deliveries expected in early 2018.
