Whitehouse Latest NE Senator To Join Push For Single-Payer Health Care

Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, Cory Booker of New Jersey and Jeff Merkley of OR are the latest Democratic 2020 presidential prospects to announce their support for Sen. Bernie Sanders on Wednesday, is quickly winning the support of key Democrats - mostly notably those considering challenging Donald Trump in the next presidential election.

"We're going to put together a grassroots movement that organizes people in all parts of this country much like we did during the presidential race", Sanders wrote in a fundraising email championing single-payer healthcare in early September.

The idea thrills the Democratic Party's progressive base and has won support from several potential 2020 presidential hopefuls.

Mr. Sanders' office will livestream the introduction of the bill here. "And the way things are going, soon no Democratic leader will be able to oppose single-payer". Elizabeth Warren (D., Mass.), last Thursday. Sen.

Although he did not endorse Sanders' specific bill, Sen. No Democrat would run for president, or even for House or Senate minority leader, without supporting the DREAM Act.

"Health care should be an American right, not a mark of economic status out of reach to many just because they don't make enough money", he said in a post on Medium. "We do. It's important though that that health care be patient-centered and not government-centered".

Still, single-payer is gaining traction among Democrats.

He says he'll continue exploring other ways to improve health care and lower costs, including adding a publicly operated health insurance option to individual marketplaces. "I think, right now, he wants to be the rational and reasonable voice of the progressive wing of the Democratic party".

Other Democrats, including those in the House, are introducing more modest measures, including one that would extend Medicare-like healthcare coverage to those near retirement age, adults between 55 and 64 years old.

Working Families Party national director Dan Cantor told CNN, "In the end, the biggest impact of the Republicans' attack on health care may be this: It has strengthened the resolve of many, many Americans to fight for health care for all". Democratic activists believe the GOP's failed attempt to repeal Obamacare has strengthened the resolve of the nation's leftists. In telling her side of the story, Clinton takes jabs at Sen.

The Vermont independent nearly stole the Democratic presidential nomination from Hillary Clinton a year ago.
