Eagles kicker Caleb Sturgis to miss 'several weeks' with quad injury

Eagles kicker Caleb Sturgis to miss 'several weeks' with quad injury

The Philadelphia Eagles will reportedly be replacing injured kicker Caleb Sturgis with Cincinnati Bengals practice squad kicker Jake Elliott.

Elliott was the Bengals' fifth-round pick in 2017.

He actually struggled during training camp and the Bengals chose to go with Randy Bullock as their primary kicker. Rapoport specifies the veteran kicker is now hampered by a strained quadriceps, and the Eagles are bringing in replacements to audition for what could be a temporary gig.

In college, he was 81 for 104 on field goals and a ideal 202 for 202 on extra points. He made 35 of 41 (85.4 percent) of his field goal attempts last season.

Meanwhile, Sturgis is expected to miss a few weeks of action and he has been placed on the injured reserve list to make room for Elliott. While he's sidelined for at least eight weeks, Elliott will serve as the team's starting kicker and could very well hold on to the job if he performs well enough.

Sturgis, who is in his third season with the Eagles, injured his hip on the opening kickoff of Sunday's 30-17 victory at Washington but remained in the game.

The Eagles visit Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs this Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium with kick-off set for 1pm.
