Gulf Crisis Boils Over At Cairo Meeting

Gulf Crisis Boils Over At Cairo Meeting

Businessman said the national products are very competitive and of high quality that match global standards. The clerics were believed to have been arrested primarily for publicly advocating Saudi rapprochement with Qatar.

"Personally I will not buy products from the boycott countries again", he said, pointing out that the products imported from Kuwait, Oman and Turkey are preferred due to their quality and competitive prices. "Unfortunately, Qatar has given its first hope to end its crisis with the four countries, that have boycotted it since 5th June 2017, after the telephone call between Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Deputy Premier and Minister of Defence, and the Emir of Qatar, who made the call, whereby Qatar evaded and distorted the reality of the contents of the telephone call that took place".

Arab foreign ministers meet during a regular session in Cairo.

Sheikh Mohamed said at press conference on the sidelines of a meeting of the UN Human Rights Council in Genèva that the real objective behind imposing the blockade on Qatar was not fighting terrorism but imposing guardianship on the country and breaching its sovereignty and meddling in its internal affairs.

Qatar has not acted against the minutes of Riyadh Accords 2013-2014, but the blockading countries have not responded to Doha's proposal for talks to resolve the GCC crisis, HE the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Sultan bin Saad al-Muraikhi said on Tuesday. It has also allowed Qatar's national carrier to use its airspace.

Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt have broken all diplomatic and commercial ties with Qatar, accusing it of financing regional terrorism and of having too close ties to the Arab states' bitter rival, Iran.

However, Saudi Arabia subsequently accused Qatar of distorting facts about the call, and said it was ending talks.

The Islamic Republic has repeatedly underlined the need for dialogue between the Arab countries to settle the dispute. Qatar has denied supporting extremism, saying the crisis is politically motivated.

After his speech, Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry rejected what he said were "baseless insults".

He further criticized what he called Qatar's "historic support" for terrorism and extremist factions.

Reacting to it, Qattan said that Qatar would regret its relations with Iran, recalling the Iranian conspiracy against the Gulf states.

Besides Iran, Turkey has also been sending food aid to the Qatar, which heavily relies on imports to feed its 2.7 million population. It significantly boosted its military presence in the Persian Gulf state since the outbreak of the row.
