Seattle mayor to resign amid another molestation allegation

Seattle mayor to resign amid another molestation allegation

Murray since blamed Dyer for bad relations between their families. His resignation will be effective at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Murray kept his promise about the minimum wage increase.

Currently, he is facing some major backlash after five men, including his adoptive son and one of his cousins, are accusing him of sexual abuse.

With an upcoming election in Seattle, Murray has publicly denied all the claims.

Harrell may turn down the position of acting mayor because accepting it would require him to give up his council seat. Despite calls for his resignation, Murray chose to stay on.

In a statement, Harrell said, "my heart goes out" to survivors of sexual abuse due to "the re-traumatisation these allegations have caused".

Councilmember Kshama Sawant blasted her colleagues for failing to push Murray out. "Establishment politicians and political operatives do not show courage on an ordinary basis, so this is yet another example".

"I felt it was wrong and I felt dirty", he said, claiming that Murray "told me it would be OK and it would be our secret and not to tell anybody". The former nun from Bellevue says she wishes Murray had quit sooner. We pin our hopes on our leaders and one of the most hard stigmas and stereotypes that held us back is being reinforced today. She says at the time, 40 years ago, she didn't realize she could press charges.

"But it has also become clear to me that in light of the latest news reports it is best for the city if I step aside", Murray said. "My life as I know it will be over at 62".

"Thank you. Thank you for finally stepping up and doing the right thing", Moon said.

Simpson reported the alleged abuse in 1984, after being removed from Murray's home. That prompted OR child-welfare officials to conclude Murray should never again be a foster parent. "Because I believe I got my story out".

The mayor is now facing a lawsuit filed by Delvonn Heckard, a 46-year-old man who alleges Murray molested him in the 1980s when he was a troubled, drug-addicted teen. Meanwhile when actual abuse of child occurs, they lie about it, they whitewash it and they help keep it going. I think it's a really sad day, not just for the city and the people involved, but it's a really hard and sad day for the LGBT community.

The resignation comes as the fifth accuser, the cousin of the mayor, emerged. On Tuesday, he said he's eager to do so. "I guess they see me down and out, and they want to finish me off", added Murray.

"I will continue to be the mayor of this city". As mayor, Murray pushed for gay rights and was a key figure in securing marriage equality in the state. That remaining support deteriorated Tuesday.

The lawsuit was dropped in June with the intention of refiling after Murray's term in office, as the mayor announced he would not be seeking re-election.
