White supremacy symbol found in Destiny 2

White supremacy symbol found in Destiny 2

Destiny 2 developer, Bungie, has removed an armour item from within the game due to similarities between that and a logo from a white supremacist flag.

Bungie made the announcement on Twitter that the resemblance was not intentional and the gauntlets would be removed from the game.

Once the notification went out, Reddit went to work and quickly sussed out that the Road Complex AA1 gauntlets are (probably) the offending kit.

The pair of gauntlets "shares elements with a hate symbol" was Bungie's exact wording. The markings were too reminiscent of the Kekisten flag, a symbol of an alt-right group.

This flag has recently been seen amongst white supremacist groups, such as those marching in the U.S. in recent weeks. "We are removing it", Bungie said in a series of tweets this afternoon. This symbol has become a popular white supremacist symbol. "We renounce hate in all forms".

The flag is modelled after the German military flag used in Nazi Germany, and was used by alt-right groups at the Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia last month.

Bungie CEO Pete Parsons later added to Bungie's statement.

They later confirmed that the image had been removed from the shared game world and that all relating imagery, including in-game icons, are set to be removed in a "HotFix" that is scheduled for next week.
