Pregnant Maryland teacher who went missing found dead

Pregnant Maryland teacher who went missing found dead

A Maryland high school teacher who disappeared last week was found dead and her boyfriend charged with murder, police say.

Tessier, who was engaged to another woman and admitted disposing of some of Wallen's possessions, was arrested Wednesday and charged with first-degree murder, Montgomery County Police Chief Tom Manger said.

Police also say that Tessier admitted to attempting to dispose of Wallen's cell phone, her driver's license, and the license plate on her auto, and that he told a friend to lie about picking him up at Wallen's residence if the police contacted her.

Wallen last contacted her family on September 4 via text message.

"She sent a text message.saying that Tyler had taken her to an open field up in the Damascus area and she says, "I'm not sure why we're up here, but he's taken me to this place in the middle of nowhere" - something to that effect".

"It's unreal. It's like one of them bad Lifetime movies that you just like yeah I know what's going to happen in the next 5 minutes of the movie, like it's not real", one speaker said. He said the acquaintance declined to help.

Investigators are not saying what they found inside of Wallen's condo or in her vehicle.

When Tessier spoke Monday at the news conference, in his appeal for Wallen, his voice occasionally broke as he said " We haven't slept, we haven't eaten, we're just looking, we're praying that you're safe. Police now accuse him of burying her in a shallow grave after allegedly taking her to a remote field, a move that so troubled her she sent a text to a friend who advised her to take a photo of it.

The police had been suspicious about Tessier's involvement in the murder. A missing person's report was filed in her name when she did not show up for work. The picture was later used to find the location of her body.

Wallen's alleged killer held her mother's hand as he pleaded for her to come home.

She had been "super-excited" about the new school year, her father, Mark Wallen, told reporters Wednesday. Police located the vehicle backed into a parking space after an employee of the complex found her driver's license in front of a dumpster. "It's nothing", Tessier said Monday, when he accompanied the family to an event where the Wallens offered a reward for information on her whereabouts.

In a parking lot across the street from Wilde Lake High School, where Wallen was named Teacher of the Year in 2016, students, parents, and school employees gathered Wednesday night to comfort each other and mourn Wallen's death.

Police said a review of surveillance video showed the couple as they made a purchase together. Manger said they don't know about a motive. "Cadaver dogs indicated on the area" and ultimately detectives found the body of Laura Wallen "in a shallow grave", said Manger. "It was done with the approval and knowledge of the victim's family", Manger said.
