John Stones targets Champions League glory for Man City

City are back in Premier League action on Saturday when they travel to Watford, with Guardiola's side now sat joint-top of the standings alongside arch-rivals Manchester United. From there, the Spaniard played the ideal first-time pass to Sergio Aguero, who had what seemed like an age to weigh up and execute his finish. Last season, Manchester City was not easily out of the group round of the Champions League, but in the first stage of the playoffs, Monaco lost.

This will mark the first competitive clash between Feyenoord and Manchester City.

City's 5-0 humiliation of Liverpool last weekend points to a season where even more goals are on the cards, but Guardiola will be keen to stem the flow at the other end.

MANCHESTER CITY (4-3-3): Ederson; Walker, Stones, Otamendi, Mendy; Fernandinho, De Bruyne, D Silva; B Silva, Aguero, Jesus.

Bernardo Silva was nearly as effusive talking about De Bruyne on Wednesday night.

The 26-year-old Danish worldwide - last year's Eredivisie top scorer with 21 goals in 32 games - will not play in the City match, Feyenoord announced on Monday. I'm so happy with the players we have.

At the start of this season, many football pundits thought Pep Guardiola was going to have a big dilemma up front with Sergio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus, as they felt the South American forwards would not be able to fit into the manager's system together. Guardiola has already made Stones reach new heights, and under the Catalan's tutelage, he could develop into one of the world's best ball-playing defenders within just a few years.

Guardiola left Touré behind in Manchester and the Ivorian is yet to feature for City in their four games this season.

Guardiola reckons De Bruyne is now at the same level as the best in the business. Xavi's. Perhaps the greatest midfielder to ever grace the competition.

Whereas Silva is adored by City fans and a crucial member of Spain's most successful teams, he does not always get the recognition he deserves.

De Bruyne was honoured by the praise but suggested it was said to pressure him to keep performing. As long as De Bruyne is at the heart of the team, though, they have every chance of doing just that.
