London Underground Bombed, 22 Injured

London's Metropolitan police confirmed in a statement that "a number" of people were injured on the train at Parsons Green station, in the southwest part of the British capital.

London Underground blast: London's ambulance service said on Friday it had sent its hazardous area response team to west London metro station after reports of a blast, reported Reuters.

The attack took place Friday morning aboard a crowded subway auto as it left Parsons Green station in southwest London. Images and videos circulating on social media show what appears to be a burning bucket inside a shopping bag on the floor of the train.Passengers evacuated the train after the back carriages reportedly filled with smoke.

Prime Minister Theresa May said her thoughts were with the victims.

"Another attack in London by a loser terrorist. We would advise people to avoid the area", the spokesman added.

Had it worked as intended, it would have killed everyone around it and maimed everyone in the train carriage for life, he said.

One witness told Reuters he was on a train at Parsons Green when he heard a "whoosh" and saw the next auto become engulfed in flames, according to GMT.

The official threat level now stands at severe - meaning an attack is seen as "highly likely".

Speaking at the incident, a Metropolitan Police spokesperson said they were investigating a "critical and extremely serious incident", relating to what seemed like an "item exploding to a small degree".

US President Donald Trump denounced the attack by "sick and demented people who were in the sights of Scotland Yard". The Met has urged the public to remain calm but vigilant and to contact police if they see anything suspicious.
