Red Sox receive fine, nothing more for AppleGate

Red Sox receive fine, nothing more for AppleGate

Manfred's announcement confirmed the reports earlier in the month that the Red Sox illegally used electronic equipment to steal signs from the Yankees, by sending information from the video replay room to a trainer in the dugout.

The Boston Red Sox will try to inch closer to an American League East title when they send 2016 AL Cy Young victor Rick Porcello to the mound on Saturday in the middle of a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field.

The A's, losing for the second time in their last eight games, had two runners caught on the bases and also had an error.

The Red Sox have 18 games remaining.

The Rays will welcome the Boston Red Sox for the opener of a three-game series in Tampa beginning on Friday. The Blue Jays ranked third in the AL with 221 home runs, but were eliminated in five games by the Indians after hitting only two homers and scoring just eight runs.

At the Wednesday ballgame between the Boston Red Sox and Oakland Athletics, four fans displayed a banner reading, "Racism is as American as Baseball". Meanwhile, Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports went as far to say that if he was calling the shots, he would've had the Red Sox forfeit all of their games against the Yankees.

"I know what happened, so no, we don't have to do any more investigation, and there won't be any internal fines", Dombrowski said from Tropicana Field, where his team opened a series against the Rays.

Brandon Workman (1-1) picked up the win for Boston.

Xander Bogaerts followed with a single.

And it helps the Red Sox keep the Yankees at arm's length while crossing another day off the calendar, no small accomplishment with two weeks left in the season.

"Anytime you're up 5-2 going into the ninth you feel pretty good", said Rays manager Kevin Cash. "Spiking a lot of the cutters and kept trying to go to it, but it wasn't there for him".

Pomeranz (16-5) allowed a run on five hits and struck out five in raising his record to 10-1 since June 16 - and also pulling into a four-way tie with staff mate Chris Sale and Cleveland's Corey Kluber and Trevor Bauer for the American League lead in wins. Mark Canha doubled home the first A's run and had three hits - his second three-hit game of the season against Boston. "It's nice being able to sit here now after the fact, but winning this game boosts the morale".
