United Nations Security Council condemns highly provocative North Korea missile launch

United Nations Security Council condemns highly provocative North Korea missile launch

"The U.N. has shifted over the past several months".

"We will defend our people and our civilization from all who dare to threaten our way of life", Trump said at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland on Friday after Pyongyang conducted its longest-ever test flight of a ballistic missile.

"The United Kingdom stands with the people of Japan in face of this awful, egregious, illegal, provocative, reckless act by the North Korean regime, which once again demonstrates their complete disregard for the sovereignty and the citizens of one of their neighbours", the British Ambassador to the UN, Matthew Rycroft told reporters after the meeting of the Security Council.

Promoting an "America First" agenda at the United Nations.

The statement appeared unlikely to change North Korea's behavior.

While U.S. officials say they prefer a diplomatic solution to this nuclear standoff, military force is also an option.

Officials have also not yet disclosed what subjects will be discussed, but along with peace efforts, their summit will come as Trump continues to make headlines for his plans to toughen up on Iran and potential plans to decertify the regime as violating the 2015 nuclear deal, despite International Atomic Energy Agency investigators finding it is abiding by its terms. The US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, said trade with North Korea would be cut 90 percent after the massive sanctions package agreed by the Security Council. But the North has ignored countless global reproaches previously.

McMaster emphasized that it's the responsibility of all nations to enforce U.N. sanctions on North Korea and address the problem.

Experts have long questioned if the US could indeed attack North Korea, given its ability to cause massive casualties south of the border.

Tillerson noted that China, which supplies North Korea with most of its oil, and Russian Federation, as the largest employer of North Korean forced labor, have a unique responsibility in the diplomatic situation.

After addressing the General Assembly Tuesday morning, Trump will meet with senior United Nations officials and the Emir of Qatar, a key regional ally which he has accused of backing terrorism in recent months.

As president-elect, he called the United Nations.

The three worldwide goals Trump will emphasize on the visit are "peace", "prosperity" and "sovereignty", McMaster said.

McMaster said North Korea's recent launch demonstrates that it is one of the world's most urgent and risky security problems, he added. She expected a Trump call for maximum pressure on North Korea. And right now, I don't have any more forensics on it. "Hopefully there will be coordination with allies on their policy lines before he adds anything to the speech about North Korea".
