Apple iPhone 8 Plus costs $295.44 to make, says IHS Markit

Apple iPhone 8 Plus costs $295.44 to make, says IHS Markit

Apple's new iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have been torn apart and researchers have estimated how much the phones cost to make. It is indeed worth noting that the component expenditures does not include the expenses for the assembly, marketing, advertising, R&D, software, employee salaries, and among other factors.

Here's a cost breakdown of how this year's models compare to last year's models (at launch). iPhone 7 and 7 Plus prices dropped by $100 following the launch of the 2017 lineup.

Apple's A11 Bionic chip is manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (NYSE:TSM) using the latter's new 10nm technology.

Chinese regulator TENAA has revealed that the iPhone X sports the same amount of RAM as the less revolutionary iPhone 8 Plus - 3GB. It might not be up there with the Oled displays of high-end Samsungs (or the iPhone X's Super Retina HD display), but it gets close. The customers can opt for different colour options likes silver, space grey and a new blush gold colour for the new newly launched smartphone and the phone will be available for sale from 22nd September.

It's been 10 years since the first iPhone came out and in all that time the battery hasn't improved too significantly.

Amid muted reaction to the iPhone 8 range, shares of Apple and its suppliers have been hit in recent days.

In addition to the aforementioned iPhones, Apple also announced the iPhone X (pronounced "ten"), which will start at $999 unsubsidized. Once the iPhone X is released in November, it's likely that we'll be giving it the same treatment in terms of what drives its price. While the battery may not be that big of a size, it's vital to know that the iPhone X is slimmer than the iPhone 8 Plus. The larger base storage capacity costs Apple $6 more per unit, while the new A11 Bionic processor costs about $5 more per unit, IHS said.

When investing geniuses David and Tom Gardner have a stock tip, it can pay to listen.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has defended the cost of the Apple products, saying they are not only for rich people. The Motley Fool has a disclosure policy.
